Meet Our Senior

Tanisha Nagori
Class of 2022

Born into poverty to a tea-stall owner in Jodhpur Rajasthan, Tanisha has overcome every obstacle that has come in her way to get here today. And yes! Sitare Foundation has been with her for every step of the way. In her community girls are actively discouraged from going to school. Her mother was married at an age of fifteen, and Tanisha was born when her mother was just sixteen. Her mother always wanted to study, but alas, there was no organization like Sitare for Tanisha's mother. Once the Sitare Foundation came into their lives, Tanisha's mother ensured that the community never got in the way of Tanisha's education.

In Her Own Words

I was born and raised in Jodhpur, Rajasthan. My father owns a tea stall in Jodhpur and that is the only source of income for my family. My mother and father never got a proper education because of the lack of awareness in our community. My mother married at the age of 15 and I was born when she was 16. I was always destined for a different path. My parents gave me unconditional love and supported my dreams to have a career. As a child, books were my world and school, my favorite place to be. This was taken away from me when my father fell ill suddenly and we had to move to our village because there was no one to support us in the city. I had to drop out of school. It was a devastating time for my family and I think it was one of the worst times in my life. A ray of light came into my life, when I heard about Sitare Foundation's work for underprivileged children. I applied for the scholarship and got accepted. My new journey began in grade-7 when I got admission in Euro International school through the foundation. I could not think of studying in a school like that ever in my dreams. Now, I am preparing to pursue higher education in the U.S. This all became possible because of Mrs. Shilpa Singhal, Dr. Amit Singhal and the Sitare team and their dream of making education accessible to every child who deserves it
